The Clearwater 5-Miler was created in 2007 to complement our half marathon and offers an opportunity to enjoy a scenic and challenging race from downtown Clearwater to the beach and back. The entire course is within 1/4 mile of Clearwater Bay, and the water views are spectacular, particularly with sunrise just 15 minutes after the race’s start.
The course starts with the half marathon at Coachman Park on Clearwater’s waterfront, heads uphill north and east on Drew Street, south on Osceola to Court Street, west over the majestic Clearwater Memorial Bridge, along the perfectly manicured Clearwater Causeway to Clearwater Beach.
Athletes travel around the circle and return back to downtown Clearwater on the south side of the causeway. After ascending the bridge for a second time, you’ll run down the bridge, onto the double helix to the waterfront finish at Coachman Park.
This is a challenging 5-mile course with two ascents over Clearwater Memorial Bridge, which will appeal to 5K runners looking to increase their mileage, as well as 10K runners seeking a new challenge.

The Clearwater 5-miler was in all honesty, one of the best races that I have ever participated in. The event itself was very well-organized, the turn-out was amazing, and the course was beautiful. I loved running by the water. The announcer did a fabulous job cheering everyone on as they crossed the finish line. The food and beverages provided were greatly appreciated! Thank you for making this one of my best races ever. I will definitely be running in it again next year. Scratch that. I will be running the halfathon next year! 🙂

Thanks so much for a lovely 5-miler experience! As a jogger from Chicago who enjoys many of the races in the windy city, I was very impressed with the personalized attention to each athlete, and the scenic course. Thanks again!
– Emily Bouchard, Chicago, IL
You put on a very well run race. Thank you.
– Drew & Suzy Bergstrom, Shoreview, MN
What an excellent job you guys did!!! I only ran the 5 miles, it was my first time doing this race and I loved it. The organization was terrific. I didn’t have my bib and had to stand in that line then the other one for my chip yet it took no time at all. When I saw the length of the line for the chips and t-shirts I was a bid daunted but it moved really rapidly. It was ten minutes tops. The race started on time, and the girl announcing was really good. The pasta was delicious and piping hot (and again, no lines), the beer didn’t go amiss either. Cold beer and hot pasta! It was a great atmosphere, you guys were great, the runners were friendly. Thank you all so much for all your hard work, the volunteers, the organizers, the vendors. I’m starting to feel guilty about just showing up to run and eat! Loved it, can’t wait for the next event.

My boyfriend and I ran in the 5 mile race in Clearwater today. Thank you for a great race!!
– Kelly Qualtiere, Spring Hill, FL
The hill at the very end was a really good challenge!!! haha. I couldn’t believe it when there was one mile left and it started out with a big steep hill, but it pushed me more than just running on flat ground! I also really liked the enthusiasm the announcers had throughout the race, it was nice they congratulated people by name as they crossed the finish line, makes it more personal even though it was a really big race!
– Lisa Engen, St. Petersburg, FL
Thanks for putting on a quality event.
– Steve Williams, Largo, FL
I have done that race several years now and love it! Great course and great food afterwards. Thanks for your hard work in making it a great day and race for all involved! We appreciate you! Thanks for sending out the plaque too. 🙂
– Kim Thomas, Safety Harbor, FL
I participated in the 5-miler event and absolutely enjoyed the scenic challenge! My son and his friend also ran the 5-miler. We had a great time! The weather was perfect and I was so energized I almost went right to do the half-marathon! Everything went so smoothly – lots of parking and fast registration time. The volunteers did a great job, too. Will do this race next year, but will do the half! Thanks!
– Eve J. Barrett, Dunedin, FL
I drove from Orlando and the race was fun and challenging and you guys had great after-race treats. Once again, it was a great race to be a part of. Thank you.
– Nina N. Gibson, Orlando, FL
I ran 5 Miler this year. This is my second Clearwater race. This is one of the well organized races in Florida and I had a great time.
– Keshor Mahalingam, Tampa, FL
It was my first time competing in an organized event like this and enjoyed it a lot. Everything was very well organized and well directed. Thanks.
– Mr. Hernandez, Tampa, FL
I had an awesome time at the 5 mile Clearwater run. Once again it was a great race and I will definitely be back next year.
– Nick Vilaret, St. Petersburg
Thank you for putting on another amazing race! This is my 3rd yr running and I enjoy it every time. It’s wonderful to see the race grow each year and get more competitive.
– Mike O’Rourke, Largo
The race was outstanding. Did the 5 miler. Nicely organized. Great volunteers! Plenty of food and drink at the end. Course was beautiful and challenging. Loved the panorama of the bay, especially on top of the bridge (too bad I had to run to the top to see it, but hey … ). First-time runner but will DEFINITELY do it again next year, maybe the 1/2!
– Larry Jensen, Redington Beach, FL
I loved the run, and I plan to do it again.
– Dave Williams, Seminole, FL
I also want to thank you for hosting such a wonderful race. I’ve recently taken up running at the age of 51 and this was my first timed race. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Everything was very well organized and the course was both scenic and challenging. Great job and thanks to all of the organizers and volunteers.
– Kurt Gleeson, Indian Shores, FL
The race was amazing. The course was beautiful and 5 miles is a perfect distance for me: challenging but without requiring serious training.
– Erin Conneely, Gainesville, FL
I wanted to say the race was perfect in every way: pre, during, and post. The vibe was great and I know those around me enjoyed it as well. What I REALLY want to commend the organizers for is having those beautiful, smart, intelligent, classy, and savvy young whippersnappers to help get everyone out the gate. I can’t be sure, but I think their names were Lolita, LeaLotta, and Nicolla. Their stunning administrative talents were so impressive (not to mention their morning glamour) I didn’t even need to warm up! Knowing those young professional women were on the job made running away a real tear-jerking experience…But the tears didn’t last long – oh no! Somewhere in the course they were spotted handing out water and ministering to the masses by playing Lady GaGa, whom studies have shown help leg muscle contraction by 1.4% per verse. So, anyway, now that I’ve mentioned Lady GaGa and these fabulous women, I will stop typing.
– Gabe McIntyre, St. Petersburg, FL
The race went so well. Thanks for all your hard work that goes into these races.
– Dona Sergi, Tampa, FL
Thanks so very much for another splendid race experience. While you can’t take credit for the great running weather, you can, and should, for the superb organization, challenging and attractive course and first-rate production (refreshments, volunteers, timing and fast results posting). Finally, thanks for the kind and generous words at the awards table.
– Don Ardell, St. Petersburg, FL
Thanks for a great event, as always.
– Jerome Napp, Tarpon Springs, FL
Just wanted to let you know how well organized and enjoyable the race was.
– Kevin Barrido, Lutz, FL
The race was great. The food was AWESOME!! Especially the pasta and meatballs. Hope you have the same next year. Thank you so much. I absolutely love your race!
– Sharon Andrews, Tarpon Springs, FL
I thought the event was really great. The weather was perfect for it and the post race food was very plentiful. Congrats on another good event. Thanks again and I’m looking forward to next year’s.
– Diane Spicer, Tampa, FL
After reviewing the results, I noticed that I placed 3rd in my age group. Do I get an award medal? They are such fun medals, I would really enjoy one if I am entitled. I also wanted to thank you for a fun, great event – I had a great time.
– Laurie Smoot, Safety Harbor, FL
Thanks – it was a great race.
– Sue Minkoff, Clearwater, FL
Thank you for mailing me my beautiful starfish award. I received it the very next day after your call. It is beautiful and once again is a nice memory of a great race. Your races are always first class and so worth the drive from Tampa. The food, the course, the volunteers, and of course, the starfish are what keep people coming back for more each year. I especially love running down the spiral walkway at the end of the race. It is like a reward for making it up that long bridge. Thanks again and see you next time!
– Claire Keneally, Tampa, FL
It was a great race, and the volunteers were all encouraging as I made my run in the 5-Miler – trying not to be last. I am 72 years old and still going. Never say Never. I said this over 30 years ago and now am still out there – going slower, but pushing for the finish line.
– Donna Lea Brown, Charleston, SC
Congratulations on managing two events under difficult (cold) circumstances. Thanks very much for the opportunity to participate in the 5 mile run. The knee held fine (at an easy pace) and Carol and I both enjoyed the course. It was good to be in a race again. I enjoyed your pre-race speech seconds before the start of the race. Stay well.
– Don Ardell, St. Petersburg, FL
Great race this morning for the 5-Miler!! Thanks.
– Nina Register, Tampa, FL
Just wanted to let you know that I had an awesome time running the 5-Miler on Sunday. The bridge wasn’t as bad as I thought … until I ran into the wind the entire time on the way back!!!! I came to Florida for the week and saw the race advertised in the Runner’s World website and couldn’t have asked for a more organized and well-run race. All of the information regarding construction and parking was sent in a timely fashion and there were no surprises on race day. I will definitely fly in from Chicago next year to run in the race again, next time for the halfathon. Thanks for a great race experience!!!!
– Cindy Placko, Niles, Illinois
